Team Net Mesh Beanie

Cousteau Red

$58.00

This is the best high output beanie on the face of the earth.

We dreamt of making a beanie like this.
Probably because so many of the ones we’ve worn have been a nightmare.

Too hot.
Too cold.
Can’t stop thinking about your itchy forehead while your legs finally feel good.
Wet and useless the second you start moving. Fucking Goldilocks bullshit while you’re grinding uphill wondering why this even has to be complicated.

The ones that almost work turn into soaked rags.
Heavy.
Cold.
Miserable.

And somehow the the performance once look weird and the swag ones are miserable to perform in.  A Carhartt beanie is cool as hell looking but you’re not blasting 5k vert in that thing while looking like Action Bronson before the weightlifting.

This thing had to hold warmth and get rid of it instantly.
It had to dump sweat, work when wet, and fit like a knit beanie despite being cut and sewn from an existing technical material. We used Polartec® Net Mesh because simply put it was the best possible material that exists for this use case. It blows away alpha direct and we love alpha direct.

And listen before we go into any tech talk:
THIS SHIT IS FULLY MACHINE WASHABLE AND DRYABLE.
No rituals. No babying. Wear it. Destroy it. Wash it. Dry it. Go again. It's all play baby! No responsibility!

Open net-mesh construction lets air rip straight through while holding just enough warmth to stay functional. When the effort spikes, heat and sweat get out pronto  instead of pooling on your head like every knit or fleece beanie you’ve ever owned.

Low profile. No bulk.
Wear it alone. Wear it under a shell. Wear it under a helmet.
It works wet. It dries fast. It’s meant to be worn all day but can easily ripped off, stuffed in a pocket, and thrown back on without thinking when conditions flip.

Fabric & Construction

Made from Polartec® Power Dry™ Mesh (156 g/m²), engineered to regulate temperature through airflow and moisture transfer rather than static insulation.

  • Open mesh structure promotes ventilation

  • Hydrophobic fibers limit moisture retention

  • Actively transfers sweat away from the skin

  • Retains necessary warmth through trapped air without excess heat buildup

Unlike closed-knit fabrics, this construction balances warmth and breathability across a wide range of output levels. It crushes alpha direct for headwear. Regular fleece is dogshit next to this. Merino has little to no loft in most instances. The fabric kicks ass- trust me.

Fabric Technology

This beanie is constructed from Polartec® Power Dry™ Net Mesh, a performance fabric engineered to regulate temperature through airflow and moisture transfer rather than static insulation.

The open mesh structure creates continuous air channels that allow heat and moisture vapor to move away from the skin as output increases. Hydrophobic fibers limit moisture absorption, preventing saturation and maintaining consistent performance during sustained activity.

Unlike closed-knit or fleece fabrics, this system retains only the warmth necessary to remain functional while allowing excess heat to escape. The result is stable thermal regulation across changing effort levels and conditions.

SIZING AND FIT

The diagram shows the approximate profile. The material is soft and can be manipulated to aesthetic preferences by the way it is situated on your head after its properly fitted and desired coverage is established. The hat has a decent for fit but it has a little extra space and a slight taper at the top to remove the hyper-performance look and stay away from the skull cap vibe. It leans more classic beanie.

OVER A YEAR IN THE MAKING

After carefully identifying the Polartec Powerdry Net Mesh as the best material on the market for the hat. We spent the better part of a year learning and testing how the material behaves. The end result is a result of a dozen unique prototypes and hundreds of hours of direct wear testing.

Developing the Shape

The shape informed the pattern making through reference simulation. We wanted to get as close to a classic acrylic knit watch cap aesthetic as possible while understanding we are working with an existing uniform fabric and cut and sew construction rather than a highly customizable knitting process.

Shape Prototyping

Before working with net mesh samples we focussed on shaping general cut and sew to replicate knitting. These shape protos were individually wear tested.

The Start

Months into the design process we were just touching the production material for the first time. Shape retention and proportions remained the top concerns while layering was the first area of learning for warmth and breathability.

All in Colorado

All testing, development and production took place in Colorado. All design and production was done in Denver and Aurora, Colorado.
